New EU law imposes single charger for all smartphones, tablets, and cameras – News Line

In today’s advanced era, smartphones use different standards for charging. Android phones use a micro USB or USBC port, while Apple iPhones use Lightning connectors.

But now it has become necessary that all the companies in the world have to use the same mobile charging port for phones, tablets, and cameras.

A new law has been approved by the European Parliament that will require the use of a single charging port for all mobile phones, tablets, and cameras in the EU.

Under the law, this ban will be implemented in 2024. Apple, the company that manufactures the iPhone, will be more affected by this law.

It was also announced in June 2022 by the European Union that the use of USBC charging connectors will be ensured for all devices and now there is legislation in this regard.

Currently, users using iPhones and Android phones have to use different chargers for their devices.

The iPhone charges with a Lightning cable while for Android most phones now use USB connectors for charging.

This is why Apple will be the most affected by European law because it does not use USB ports.

The European law will apply to e-readers, earbuds, and other technology-based devices. The presence of a USBC charging port will also be necessary for them.

In the European Parliament, 602 votes were cast in favor of this law and only 13 votes were cast against it.

The European Commission estimates that the single charger will save consumers in Europe 250 million euros.

There are also reports of Apple testing the USB port in iPhones. iPhones with USB ports may be introduced in 2023.

These reports also claimed that Apple is also developing an adapter that will enable the use of lighting connector accessories in new iPhones equipped with a USB port.
