Russia unveils model of proposed space station after leaving ISS
The Russian space agency has presented a model of its space station. This model shows what the Russian-built space station will look like.
This indicates that Russia is serious about detaching from the International Space Station (ISS).
The Russian space agency Roskosmos has built a model of the space station near Moscow. Presented during an industrial exhibition and named Ross by the Russian media.
According to Russia Cosmos, the new space station will be launched in 2 stages, but no date has been announced by the agency at this time.
In the first phase, 4 modules of the space station will start functioning and in the second phase, 2 more modules and a service platform will be added.
When the space station is completed, it will be able to house 4 astronauts.
Russian state media have indicated that the first phase of construction of the space station could begin in 2025 or 2026.
The head of Russia Cosmos, Yuri Borisov, said last month that Russia will leave the ISS after 2024 and work on preparing its own space station.
The ISS was launched in 1998 and the US space agency NASA wants to operate the ISS by 2030.
NASA says it has not yet received official confirmation of Russia’s departure from the International Space Station.
