Pakistan won the first gold medal in Commonwealth Games 2022
Pakistan’s Noah Dastgir Butt won the gold medal in the 109+ weightlifting category. Pakistan has won two medals in the ongoing Commonwealth Games.
Noah Dastgir Butt lifted a total weight of 405 kg and won the gold medal. He lifted 173 kg in snatch and 232 kg in clean and jerk.
Noah Dastgir’s lifts of 173 kg in the snatch and 232 kg in the clean and jerk are Commonwealth Games record lifts in the 109+ weight category.
It should be remembered that Noah Dastgir also won the bronze medal for Pakistan in 2018, while he won the silver medal in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship held in December last year.
Noah Dastgir Butt’s gold is only Pakistan’s second gold medal in Commonwealth Games history before Shujauddin Malik won the weightlifting gold for Pakistan in 2006.
Following victory in Common Wealth Games 2022, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Nooh Butt Dastagir. In his, Tweet PM said, “Well done, Butt Saab.”

Noah dedicated this award to his father
Speaking to Geo News after the historic achievement for his country, Noah said, “I dedicate this gold to my father, who worked for 12 years and helped me reach this point.”
The weightlifter said that his father trains him at home, adding, “My father was also an international weightlifter. And, my brother is also into the sport.
