Train derailed in Iran, 4 killed
A train derailed near Tabas between the central Iranian cities of Mashhad and Yazd, killing 10 people.
“Ten people have been killed and several injured in the incident,” National Rescue Service spokesman Mujtaba Khalidi was quoted as saying by state television, according to AFP.
“Twelve of the injured are in critical condition and have been shifted to hospitals,” he said.
Mir Hassan Mousavi, deputy head of Iran’s state railways, told the state broadcaster that there were 348 passengers on board the crashed train.
He added that the train “derailed after colliding with an excavator tractor, the tractor was near the train”.
At 5:30 a.m., five of the 11 bogies in the train derailed, emergency services said.
