A Dutch company is set to launch the world’s first solar-electric vehicle for consumers soon. A company called Lightair was founded in 2016 and has developed 949 solar-powered vehicles with a 60-kilowatt electric motor. These solar panels are mounted on the roof and doors of the vehicle. Lex Hofslot, CEO of the company, said that electric vehicles are definitely a step in the right direction but they have to rely on electricity and this electricity is produced from crude fuel. “Through the sun, you can charge your car at any time of the day,” he said. The company claims that this vehicle can travel more than 700 km on a single charge thanks to solar and electric batteries. The Light Air Model 0 is priced at 2.5 million Euros (over PKR 53.5 million) and will be available in Europe in the next few weeks.
