2 men shot in area of busy Bergen County shopping plaza

Authorities say two people were shot Wednesday morning near a large shopping plaza in Bergen County.

Edgewater police received a 911 call informing them of the firing on 14th Promenade of River Road shortly after midnight.

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, officers found a 22-year-old man who had been shot several times in a shopping plaza. The shops in the City Place complex include luxury apartments, a hotel, several restaurants and retail stores.

At the same time, officers were called to a gas station less than a mile and a half from the 400 block of River Road, where they found another 22-year-old man who had also been shot, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

Both the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to TMZ, one of the victims was rapper Lil TJ, whose real name is Tune Merit. Authorities did not confirm the report Wednesday morning.

A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office did not immediately say whether investigators believed the shooting was involved.

“No additional information is available at this time,” the spokesman said in a statement.
